‘Our Innate Connection to Nature”

My final year university project ‘Our Innate Connection to Nature’ explores our personal relationship with natural spaces and comments on the influence time spent in nature can have on our mood. The collections ‘Chelsea Psychic Gardens’ and ‘Nottingham Arboretum’, both named after the natural spaces that influenced them, delve into how nature can bring us a sense of joy or a sense of calm, respectively. These collections of woven samples are designed for soft furnishings, intending to bring the comforting influence of nature into your home.

'Chelsea Psychic Gardens'

The sub-collection ‘Chelsea Psychic Gardens’ takes its name from the Botanical gardens in Chelsea that inspired its colour palette and mood. This collection delves into the idea of natural spaces bringing you feelings of joy, childlike playfulness and bliss. A mixture of double cloth figuring, checkerboards and jacquard designs have been used to give the collection its diverse technical and textural feel. The use of Lambswool in these fabrics echoes the focus on comfortability and natural influences. The fabrics are designed for soft furnishings within an interior setting, bringing the fun and freedom of the outdoors into your living room.

'Nottingham Arboretum'

‘Our Innate Connection to Nature’ explores our personal relationship with natural spaces and comments on the influence time in nature can have on our mood. The sub-collection ‘Nottingham Arboretum’ takes its name from Nottingham’s own urban park that inspired its colour palette and mood. This collection delves into the idea of natural spaces bringing you feelings of comfort, calm and meditation. A mixture of honeycombs, ribs, checks and jacquard designs have been used to give the collection its diverse technical and textural feel. The use of Lambswool in these fabrics echoes the focus on comfortability and natural influences. The fabrics are designed for soft furnishings within an interior setting, bringing the calming nature of the outdoors into your living room.

Paul Vogel

Paul Vogel set a menswear competition brief for NTU. The brief required us to produce a collection of 6-8 designs with up to 8 supporting CAD designs. The collection is aimed at brands for shirting within the SS25 season. The samples I developed were woven on arm touch looms using 2/16 combed cotton. I also generated supporting CAD designs on Pointcarré  which I then simulated using a felting setting to give them a more realistic look. I was awarded 1st place in this competition, leading to Paul inviting me to assist on his design stand at Première Vision in Paris.

SPINEXPO

NTU ran a collaborative project with SPINEXPO where fashion, knitwear and textiles students could use SPINEXPO yarns to create garment, accessories and fabric samples to correspond with their SS25 trends. During this project, I collaborated with another textiles student and a fashion student. We decided to design for the trend ‘Advocacy’ and created a unisex jacket and accompanying bag. This garment was exhibited at SPINEXPO in Shanghai with the rest of the NTU collection, where it was viewed by yarn sellers, buyers, trend researchers and industry professionals.
